Open House with TV Producer and Writer Bernadette Luckett
Monday, December 5, 2022 from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Sanford Hall Room 316
On Monday, December 5, television producer, scriptwriter, and stand-up comedienne Bernadette Luckett will visit Appalachian State, and will host an Open House for students, faculty and staff from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in Sanford Hall Room 316.
Luckett has been a writer or producer on several television sitcoms, including Living Single (1993-1994), Sister, Sister (1994-1995), Buddies (1996), The Tracy Morgan Show (2003-2004) ROMEO! (2003-2006) and Girlfriends (2000-2002). She is currently a producer on the Apple+ show Best Foot Forward (2022- ), described by Decider’s Joel Keller as “a family-friendly sitcom that doesn’t pander to its audience in the slightest.”
Luckett’s interest in comedy has resulted in a decade-plus standup career, contributions to the comedic anthologies No Kidding: Women Writers on Bypassing Parenthood (2013) and SisterWriterEaters (2017), and co-production of (and an appearance in) the award-winning documentary film Comedy Warriors: Healing Through Humor (2013), which has aired on Showtime, PBS, Netflix and Hulu.
During her visit to App State, Luckett will not be giving a formal presentation. Rather, she’ll simply be “hanging out” in Sanford Hall Room 316, waiting for people to meet her and bring their questions to her about the television industry. Students, here’s a chance to get advice about careers in television from someone in the business!
This event is sponsored by the App State University Department of English Film Committee. For more information, contact Dr. Craig Fischer at fischercj@appstate.edu or (828) 262-2325.
