ENG 3050: Studies in Folklore will be taught by Dr. Conway this Fall 2021 semester. It will meet on Tuesdays in the brand new Sanford Hall, room 406, and on Zoom during Thursdays from 2-3:15. This class will discuss all things folklore including language studies, anthropology, sociology, psychology, music, and other fine and applied art fields. "This course is an introduction to the cross-disciplinary field of folklore. We will explore the history of mountain music, lore, material culture, and custom. There will be fieldwork experiences in and out of class as possible Upon completion of this course, students should have a working knowledge of folklore study and a variety of disciplinary perspectives. Students will gain knowledge about Southern and Appalachian culture; they will explore the interaction between folklore and literature and will develop interpretive skills."
