This Fall 2020, Dr. Conway will teach Women and Literature with Film--a study of the work of outstanding and diverse Southern women writers. Course content will concentrate on poetry, fiction, drama, non-fiction prose, or films, and associated criticism and theory. The class might include works such as Eudora Welty's The Golden Apples; film of Carson McCullers' Member of the Wedding; Zora Neal Hurston's Mules and Men; film of Alice Walker's The Color Purple; film of Lillian Hellman's memoir Pentimento; Lee Smith's Fair and Tender Ladies; the film Hiroshima Mon Amour (1959) directed by Alain Resnais with a screenplay by Marguerite Duras; Leslie Marmon Silko's Ceremony.
