Places and Spaces in Short Fiction
Guest Writer: Emily Nemens
T/Th 5-6:15
In this class we’ll look at short fiction with a focus on place—domestic spaces, the natural environment, cities and beyond—thinking about how setting can be a character and a catalyst in our stories. By reading published work with an eye to place-making in prose, we’ll get a sense of how fiction can build worlds big and small, and each student will develop two pieces of fiction—a story set in a familiar/remembered space, and one that stretches beyond lived experience by way of creative research practices.
