- Professor: Dr. Leslie Cook
- Meeting time: Wednesdays from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
- Modality: Online, synchronous
An inquiry driven course that explores current and salient issues in the field of English Education, a broad discipline encompassing the study of teaching literature, composition, and English as a second or other language. In this course we will look at literacy across age spans and cultural and social aspects of teaching English, including the impact of gender, race, class, ability, and many other intersecting relevant factors. Along with reading and discussing current articles from key journals, students will choose course texts from a provided list of trade books for book club conversations. They will also engage in independent, self-selected research resulting in a paper and a seminar in their chosen topic. Students will finish this course with resources to improve their own teaching and a deeper understanding of the field of English Education.
