Description:
ENG 5870, Romantic Period will focus on the Romantic-era quest for racial, gender, social, and political justice. We will study and discuss slave narratives, feminist texts such as Mary Wollstonecraft’s The Wrongs of Woman (1798) and Mary Hays’s The Victim of Prejudice (1799), the plights of rural people in Great Britain, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1818), contemporaneous responses to the 1819 Peterloo massacre, and numerous Romantic poems.
